Some Benefits and Features of the Amorea flute

Where does the name "Amorea" come from?

The name "Amorea" was borne of a search for a word that was 'energetically' fitting for this instrument. In other words, that felt like the instrument feels, at its best. The base of the word 'amorea', amor, which is the latin word for love, was chosen because this instrument has the capacity to speak in a lovingly expressive way, once mastered. This is why it was created in the first place. Lastly, it is a direct descendent of the 'love flute' as it is sometimes called, developed by our Native American ancestors, and this pays tribute to that heritage.

So first there was the latin word for love, 'amor', which already has a nice, round, positive energy about it, and added to it was the 'ea' - making it an object that carries the qualities of the base word, 'amor'.

What is an Amorea flute?

The ‘Amorea’ was originally the answer to a quest for a more expressive Native American flute. The NA flute has a legendarily beautiful, haunting sound, the product of its multi-chamber design. There are factors that aren’t even fully understood, that give it its signature tone, and that separate it from other flutes, even wooden flutes with built-in fipple and air channel, such as the European recorder.

But the NA flute has serious limitations with regard to it's scale and range, and while these limitations help to shape the familiar sound of that flute, there was much that could be gained by taking that basic beautiful flute sound and giving it a much greater range of expression.

So the Amorea was created to enable a player to have that beautiful NA flute sound quality, but unlike any flute of the past, could play a slur, a seamless glissando, and even new and unique musical motifs like those that have only been heard in vocal music in the past.

In fact, the Amorea is probably more like the human voice than it is like any musical instrument, both in the intuitive way that it is played, as well in it's unbound expressive sound.

Pre haps the greatest feature of the Amorea is that it is much easier to learn to play an Amorea well, than it is to learn to sing well.
